Promoters Goldenvoice revealed on Tuesday that the leading acts for the 2024 Coachella festival will be Lana Del Rey, Doja Cat, Tyler, the Creator, and No Doubt. Below is the lineup poster.
Peso Pluma, Blur, J Balvin, Ice Spice, Sublime, Lil Uzi Vert, Grimes, Victoria Monet, Jon Batiste, Bleachers, Justice, Deftones, and Lil Yachty are also included on the list. Notable musicians that are expected to make huge waves include Bizarrap, Khruangbin, and others. The festival's 23rd edition will be held over the weekends of April 12–14 and April 19–21 at its home, the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio, California.
Early access to passes is available to those who bought festival tickets for 2023–2022, with the loyalty presale beginning on January 18 at 2:00 p.m. PT, starting at 11 a.m. PT on January 19, is the general presale.
On the official Coachella YouTube channel, YouTube will make a comeback in 2023 as the only livestream partner for both weekends of the festival.
The festival banner for this year features an intriguing fourth headlining spot at the bottom, giving the artist headliner billing (via the crucial font-size heirarchy) but without a set date; the first three headliners top the bills for each of the festival's three days. This is the third year that this has happened. Its exact significance has never been known. Initially, it appeared as though the billing was either a late-night dance slot or a kind of backup act in case one of the main acts withdrew (which turned out to be the case in 2022 when Swedish House Mafia replaced the Weeknd on Sunday nights after Kanye West canceled a few days prior to the festival). But last year, after Frank Ocean withdrew from his contentious headline performance over the first weekend, Blink-182 took his place, and Harris performed late-night DJ sets. With seasoned alt-rock group No Doubt holding that role this year, the significance is even more muddled.
Both Dua Lipa and Shakira, who are expected to release new albums in 2024, were apparently considered to be the headliners. Lipa withdrew due to scheduling conflicts, while festival organizers reportedly rejected Shakira.
Coachella 2020, announced in January of that year, had Rage Against the Machine as the lead act; however, the pandemic caused four postponements of the event. Zach de la Rocha, the group's singer, suffered a significant knee injury during the group's 2022 second reunion tour, which resulted in the dates being postponed indefinitely. It appears that the group has no plans for the future. The band "will not be touring or playing live again," according to a post made by drummer Brad Wilk on January 3.
The headliners for the previous year were Blackpink, Bad Bunny, and, for the first weekend, Frank Ocean, the intended 2020 headliner. The secretive artist had prepared a lavish ice-skating rink for his performance, replete with dozens of skaters, but it was disassembled at the last minute, so he played a low-key, informal set that started late and disappointed a lot of fans. He postponed his presence until the second weekend, when Blink-182 took his place.
The festival experienced a last-minute headliner switch for the second year in a row in 2022. Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, and Swedish House Mafia performed as a tag team, replacing Kanye West, who had canceled his performance just days before the first weekend of the festival.
The 125,000 tickets available for Coachella, the biggest music event in North America, have already been sold out.
